The Creed

We, the brothers of Kappa Kappa Psi, believe that service to the college or university band program fosters responsibility, loyalty, and leadership; that a spirit of brotherhood is enhanced by the participation in a band program; that music is a universal language and truly the greatest of the arts; and that through fraternal participation, each member will strive for the highest.

Our Purpose

Be it known that Kappa Kappa Psi, National Honorary Fraternity for college band members, is an organization operating exclusively in the field of the college and university bands, and for the following several purposes:

  1. To promote the existence and welfare of the college and university bands and to cultivate at large a wholesome respect for their activities and achievements.

  2. To honor outstanding band members through privilege of membership extended as a reward for technical achievement and appreciation for the best in music.

  3. To stimulate campus leadership and promulgate an uncompromising respect through the medium of the college band for gracious conduct, good taste and unswerving loyalty.

  4. To foster a close relationship between college bands and promote a high average of attainment by the performance of good music and selection of worthwhile projects.

  5. To provide a pleasant and helpful social experience for all engaged in college band work and to cooperate with other musical organizations in any manner consistent with the purposes of the institution at which chapters are located.

Kappa Kappa Psi is a fraternal organization that promotes the advancement of college and university bands through dedicated service and support to bands; comprehensive education; leadership opportunities; and recognition; for the benefit of its members and society.

Our History

The Theta chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi at Oregon State University was originally chartered in May of 1923. To learn more, read our history page.

Jade Bell (THey/Them)

Rho Class

Jade is an undergraduate Electrical and Computer Engineering major and minoring in Computer Science. They joined the marching band in 2021 playing trumpet and learned tenor sax in campus band in 2024. They are a part of the Rho class from 2023. Jade enjoys meeting new brothers and helping support the people in the band programs for anything they may need!

Ethan hill (HE/HIM)

Pi Class

Ethan Hill is a sixth-year student who first joined the marching band at Oregon State University playing trumpet. He is part of the Rho class from 2023 and currently performs in the campus band. As the VP of Membership, Ethan is passionate about connecting with potential members and fostering a welcoming community. He enjoys supporting his fellow musicians and helping the band programs thrive.

Julie Feldhousen (she/her)

Sigma Class

Julie Feldhousen is a second-year computer science student who joined the marching band at Oregon State University on piccolo her first year. She joined Theta in winter 2024 as a part of the Sigma class. In addition to athletic bands, she enjoys playing flute in campus band. As both secretary and webmaster, Julie hopes to make a difference in both the organization and online presence of the chapter.

Sigma Class

Avery is an undergraduate biology major focusing in pre-vet and minoring in animal science, chemistry, and business. She joined the band in Fall 2023 playing the tenor saxophone and campus band in Spring 2024 as a flute. She joined KKPsi spring of 2024 and serves as Treasurer for the 2024-25 year. Avery is currently looking forward to creating more fundraising traditions for the band program.

Stella is a second-year psychology major with a minor in religious studies. Originally a clarinet player in the 2023 marching season, they are now a drum major, a position they see as exemplifying a spirit of service to the band. They joined Kappa Kappa Psi because of their love for music and a drive to become even more involved in their band program. Serving as the 2024-2025 Director of Service, they look forward to helping all of the bands in every way possible.

Jose has been an active member of Kappa Kappa Psi for three years and is currently a fourth-year student at the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences at Oregon State University. They have contributed to numerous music ensembles, showcasing their dedication to both academics and the arts.

Chapter Sponsor

Olin Hannum

Olin Hannum serves as Director of Athletic Bands at Oregon State University, where he leads the OSU Marching Band and oversees athletic band activities. He is the seventh director in the history of the OSUMB, which has had a rich performance history over 130 years.

Hannum was previously the Director of the California Aggie Marching Band at the University of California, Davis. During his five years at UC Davis, he increased the membership of the marching band to a record 322 participants. The ensemble was featured at its first NFL game and developed a state-wide performance presence. He additionally directed the UC Davis University Campus Band, a concert ensemble.

Hannum holds a Master of Arts in Teaching from Oregon State University, and previously worked as a graduate assistant with the athletic and symphonic band programs during his time at OSU. In addition to his teaching degree, he holds a bachelor’s degree in horn performance from UC Davis. He has performed with the Golden State Wind Ensemble, San Francisco Wind Ensemble, and the Berkeley Symphony. Hannum’s role as the Theta chapter sponsor is integral to the relationship between the chapter and the band programs we serve.
